Documentation & Guide

About the /setblock Generator

The /setblock generator produces commands to place or replace an individual block at precise coordinates with custom block state orientations and modes.

How to Use This Generator

  1. Input the target coordinates (absolute X Y Z or relative ~ ~ ~).
  2. Select the block ID to place (e.g., minecraft:redstone_block, air).
  3. Choose placement mode: replace (default), keep (only if target is air), or destroy.
  4. Copy and execute in chat or via a command block.

Parameters & Options Explained

Position

Exact 3D block coordinates where the block will be set.

Block ID

The namespaced identifier of the block to place.

Mode

replace (overwrites existing block silently), keep (only places if space is empty air), destroy (breaks existing block with particles and drops).

Practical In-Game Example

Tested & Validated
/setblock ~ ~-1 ~ minecraft:redstone_block replace

Places a redstone block beneath the player to trigger hidden redstone circuits or command block mechanisms.

Java vs Bedrock Compatibility

Java Edition:Supports square-bracket block states [facing=north] and block entity NBT in curly braces {Items:[...]}.
Bedrock Edition:Supports block states and tileData integers, but does not accept curly-brace container NBT.

Important Limitations & Rules

  • Only changes a single block at a time; use /fill for multi-block volumes.
  • Coordinates must be within loaded chunks and valid world height boundaries (-64 to 320 in Java).
