Documentation & Guide

About the /effect Generator

The /effect generator creates commands to give, remove, or clear status effects on players or mobs with custom durations, amplifier potency, and particle toggles.

How to Use This Generator

  1. Select action: give (apply buff/debuff) or clear (remove effect).
  2. Choose the target selector or player name.
  3. Pick a status effect from the autocomplete list (e.g. speed, strength, night_vision).
  4. Set duration in seconds (or "infinite" on modern Java).
  5. Set amplifier level (0 = Level I, 1 = Level II, up to 255).
  6. Toggle particle visibility (true = clean screen without swirling bubbles).

Parameters & Options Explained

Action

Whether to give a new effect or clear active effects.

Effect ID

The namespaced status effect identifier (e.g. minecraft:speed, regeneration).

Duration

Effect length in seconds. Use "infinite" in Java 1.19.4+ or 99999 in Bedrock.

Amplifier

Strength of the effect: 0 gives Level I, 1 gives Level II, up to 255.

Hide Particles

Hides swirling potion bubble particles for a clear view.

Practical In-Game Example

Tested & Validated
/effect give @s minecraft:night_vision infinite 0 true

Gives yourself permanent Night Vision with invisible particles in Java 1.20+.

Java vs Bedrock Compatibility

Java Edition:Uses "/effect give" or "/effect clear". Supports "infinite" keyword.
Bedrock Edition:Omits "give" keyword: "/effect <player> <effect> [duration] [amplifier] [hideParticles]".

Important Limitations & Rules

  • Instant damage and health effects only last 1 tick; duration should be 1.
  • Amplifiers above 250 on Jump Boost disable jumping due to integer limits.
