About the /fill Generator

The /fill generator helps builders calculate coordinates and parameters to fill, clear, hollow out, or frame 3D cuboid regions with specified block types.

How to Use This Generator

  1. Specify the first coordinate corner (from X Y Z or relative ~ ~ ~).
  2. Specify the opposite diagonal coordinate corner (to X Y Z).
  3. Choose the block ID to fill the region with.
  4. Select a fill mode: replace, keep (air only), hollow, outline, or destroy.
  5. If using replace, optionally specify which existing block type to substitute.
  6. Copy the output and run in chat or a command block.

Parameters & Options Explained

From / To Coordinates

The two diagonal corners defining the 3D cuboid volume to modify.

Block ID

The block namespace to fill the area with (e.g., minecraft:stone, glass, oak_planks).

Mode

replace (swaps blocks), keep (fills air only), hollow (outer shell with air inside), outline (outer shell preserving interior), destroy (breaks blocks dropping items).

Replace Filter

When using replace mode, only blocks matching this ID will be overwritten.

Practical In-Game Example

Tested & Validated
/fill ~-10 ~-1 ~-10 ~10 ~-1 ~10 minecraft:stone_bricks

Instantly constructs a 21x21 stone brick foundation centered beneath the player.

Java vs Bedrock Compatibility

Java Edition:Enforces a 32,768 block volume limit per command. Supports block states in square brackets [facing=north].
Bedrock Edition:Enforces volume limits depending on platform memory. Supports block states or legacy numeric tileData values.

Important Limitations & Rules

  • Maximum volume limit is 32,768 blocks in Java Edition; larger areas must be split into multiple commands.
  • Using "destroy" on large builds creates massive item entity counts that can crash server tick rates.
  • There is no built-in undo command; always test on world backups.
